If you’re running a mid-sized PET line, you know the feeling. The hardware is getting old. Cycle times are starting to drag, and the preforms aren’t heating evenly. Your first instinct is probably to rip the whole thing out and buy a new machine. But honestly? That’s usually overkill. Most of the time, the real culprit isn’t the machine itself—it’s just that your heater elements have lost their punch. The secret is in the heat HyPET systems live and breathe shortwave infrared (IR) radiation. It’s what gets deep into that PET resin. When your lamps get old or weren’t built for high output, the preform just doesn’t hit that “sweet spot” temperature fast enough. We fix this by using high-density quartz glass and a specific way of winding the filaments to pack the heat in. By swapping your old lamps for ones with more wattage-per-centimeter, you’re basically giving the machine a shot of adrenaline. Suddenly, you’re shaving seconds off every cycle. That adds up fast. Getting the fit right Now, you can’t just throw any lamp in there. It has to match your electrical setup perfectly, or you’ll end up frying your controllers. Whether you’re dealing with R7s or SK15 connectors, the fit needs to be snug. If it’s loose, you get resistance. Resistance leads to hot spots, and hot spots lead to your lamps burning out way too soon. We also use special coatings on the quartz. This makes sure the heat actually hits the plastic instead of just warming up the oven walls. The one thing to watch out for Here’s the catch: more heat means more stress on your cooling. You can’t just crank up the power and hope for the best. If you push the speed too hard without enough airflow, your preforms might overheat or start “pearling.” Before you make the switch, take a look at your blowers. Can they handle the extra heat inside the chamber? If the air is stagnant, you’ll get uneven results. Balance that heat density with your ventilation, and that’s where you’ll see the real jump in production.
