
Can a simple heater swap actually speed up your bottle production?
If you’re running a mid-sized blow molding shop, you probably have a few “old reliable” machines. They work, but they’re slow. Usually, the bottleneck isn’t the motor or the mold—it’s the oven. When your PET preforms aren’t hitting the right temperature consistently, you’re stuck. You have to slow the whole line down just to keep the wall thickness from looking wonky. It’s frustrating. You know the machine can do more, but the heat just isn’t there. That’s where swapping out those old, tired lamps for high-spec quartz infrared tubes comes in. It’s the quickest way to get your throughput back. The secret is all in the heat density. To get more bottles out the door every hour, you need a harder hit of heat. We build our quartz tubes to push short-wave infrared radiation straight into the PET. By bumping up the wattage or tightening the voltage specs, the preform softens faster. It’s a simple trade-off: more power per millimeter means you can crank up the line speed without sacrificing quality. No need to rewire the whole shop. We use high-purity quartz glass so the tubes don’t warp or crack when things get hot. Plus, we offer R7s or Sk15 connectors. These are basically “plug and play.” You don’t have to spend a weekend tearing apart your control cabinet; you just pull out the burnt-out lamps and pop these in. Some of our tubes even have special coatings that bounce the heat back toward the plastic instead of letting it soak into your machine frame. One quick word of caution… You can’t just throw the highest wattage possible at an old machine and hope for the best. A 400V tube puts out a massive amount of heat, which is great for the bottles, but tough on your power supply. It also makes the oven get a lot hotter. Before you flip the switch, make sure your cooling fans are actually doing their job. If the airflow is sluggish, you risk melting components you really don’t want to replace. But, if your airflow is dialed in? You can make an old machine run like it just rolled off the factory floor.
